Lower Key Stage 2 have had a wonderful half term and have been fully immersed in their ‘Splish, Splash, Splosh’ topic. We enjoyed learning about the differences between solids, liquids and gases, melting chocolate and trying to freeze different liquids. Anglia Water joined us virtually to teach us about the water cycle and we carried out lots of different investigations to show rates of evaporation and condensation. We read some great books too, including ‘Flotsam’ and ‘Why the whales came’ by Michael Morpurgo – we would definitely recommend them to others!
We were thrilled to be able to go on our first school trip in a very long time, visiting a local farm and learning about how the climate and the environment effects what can be grown.
The arts also continued to be a big focus – we honed our skills on the glockenspiel and learnt about ‘Amazing Artist’ Banksy, replicating some of his work with our own graffiti tags. We also enjoyed a ‘Draw with Rob’ virtual session with author and illustrator Rob Biddulph. We were so inspired that many of us continued to practise what he’d taught us at home.
Next half term, we are looking forward to our new topic ‘Stone Age to Iron Age.’ We are looking forward to visiting Ancient House Museum for a hands-on workshop and learning about our local history when we visit Grimes Grave – a prehistoric flint mine. Mrs Gough has got some more great books lined up too, starting with ‘How to Wash a Woolly Mammoth!’
