P.E

You can reach your maximum potential by engaging in physical activities.

INTENT

Physical Education at Forest Academy encompasses more than just that which is taught in lessons, developing the necessary skills to compete in sports and the understanding of physical and mental health. Our aim is to provide the children with a breadth of memorable experiences, to enhance their physical skills, sporting knowledge, culture capital and competitive spirit.

By the time our students leave us, they will be well equipped with the skills, the knowledge, and the confidence required to participate in the competitive sporting world, which surrounds them. They will be familiar with many different sports, the rules and the skills needed, allowing them join in with any sport offered to them.

IMPLEMENTATION

Our Physical Education curriculum follows the National Curriculum and provides children with a wide range of opportunities, with a strong focus on developing skills. We use the Get Set 4 PE scheme of work across EYFS, KS1 and KS2.

Our children experience a range of opportunities: school trips, including sports competitions such as the Women’s Six Nations; inter-school competitions in the local area; swimming in Years 4, 5 and 6, use of the Daily Mile track; extra-curricular clubs, activities weeks and workshops to develop leadership in sport.

In lessons, children develop their Physical Education skills though guided practice, peer coaching, personal competition and games.

IMPACT

We use a range of strategies to assess what skills and knowledge the children have attained each term including the following:

  • Learning walks
  • Pupil voice
  • Regular feedback
  • Get Set 4 PE assessment tools
  • Personal challenge boards
